Nursing Abroad After 12th: Countries, Rules and INC Equivalency (2027-28)

Nursing is one of the most in-demand professions in the world, and many Indian students now look at a BSc Nursing abroad after Class 12. A foreign nursing degree can open doors to work in that country, in India or elsewhere. But admission is only the first step; registration rules decide where you can actually work. This guide explains your options for the 2027-28 intake.

First decide where you want to work

Every country has its own nursing regulator. Before choosing a course, decide where you hope to work after graduating: in that country, in India or in a third country. The right course depends on this answer.

Popular countries for nursing

United Kingdom

Three-year BSc nursing degrees in one field (adult, children's, mental health or learning disability), with half of the course on clinical placements. Apply through UCAS; the main deadline for September 2027 is in late January 2027. Graduates register with the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council. See Nursing in the UK.

Canada

Four-year BScN or BN degrees. Nurses pass the NCLEX-RN and register with their province's regulator. International seats are limited, and applications often close between December and March. See Nursing in Canada.

Australia

Three-year Bachelor of Nursing degrees with intakes around February and July. Registration is with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through Ahpra, which has a high English standard. See Nursing in Australia.

Germany

University nursing degrees that include the German nursing licence, with very low tuition at public universities. They are taught in German, often needing B2–C1 level, and Indian Class 12 may need a foundation year. See Nursing in Germany.

Dubai, UAE

Four-year English-taught BSN degrees close to India, with DHA licensing for work in Dubai. See Nursing in Dubai.

Eligibility after Class 12

  • Class 12 with Biology, Chemistry and English, at the marks each university asks for.
  • English test scores (IELTS, PTE or TOEFL) for English-taught courses; German for Germany.
  • Interviews, personal statements and references in some countries.
  • Health checks, vaccinations and police checks before placements.

English requirements: plan for registration, not just admission

Universities set entry scores, but nursing regulators often expect higher English levels for registration. For example, Australia's nursing board usually expects IELTS Academic 7 in each band. Aim for the registration standard from the start.

Working in India after nursing abroad

Indian citizens with a foreign nursing qualification need equivalency from the Indian Nursing Council (INC) before they can register with a State Nursing Registration Council. Your university must send INC your transcripts with theory and clinical hours. Keep every syllabus and clinical record safe from the first year.

2027-28 timeline

  • Now – December 2026: choose your country, book your English test and prepare documents.
  • January – April 2027: apply (UK by late January; Canada often by March).
  • May – August 2027: accept an offer, arrange funds and apply for the visa.

Costs

Costs vary widely: high tuition in the UK, Canada and Australia; low tuition but high language effort in Germany; significant private fees in Dubai. Always add living costs, insurance, visa and placement travel.
