About Dubai Medical University

DMU began in 1986 as Dubai Medical College for Girls, a not-for-profit college set up to train women doctors in the UAE. It has since grown into a medical university with colleges of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and nursing. It is licensed by the UAE's Ministry of Higher Education.

The BSc in Nursing

The four-year BSN combines nursing science with clinical rotations. Students learn:

  • Foundation sciences such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology and pharmacology.
  • Nursing care across adult health, maternal and child health, mental health and community health.
  • Clinical skills in labs and simulation.
  • Supervised clinical practice in Dubai Health and private hospitals.

This is a nursing degree, not a medical doctor course. Check the current high-school entry rules, language evidence and professional registration requirements for your study plan.

Why students consider DMU

  • An established medical university in Dubai.
  • English-taught nursing with clinical rotations in Dubai hospitals.
  • Close to India, with a very large Indian community.
  • A route to DHA licensing for work in Dubai.

Things to think about carefully

  • Private university fees are significant.
  • Dubai living costs, especially rent, are high.
  • UAE laws and social rules must be followed strictly.

How to apply

Apply directly to DMU with your Class 12 results (with Biology, Chemistry and English), English test scores, passport and attested documents. Indian certificates may need attestation and UAE equivalency. After acceptance, the university helps with the student residence visa.

Fees and costs

Ask DMU for the 2027-28 tuition and any scholarships. Add accommodation, transport, insurance, visa, Emirates ID, books and uniforms.

Life in Dubai

Dubai is a modern, international city with excellent infrastructure, a metro, shopping centres and beaches. Nearly a third of its residents are of Indian origin, so Indian food, festivals and community groups are everywhere. Summers are extremely hot; winters are pleasant. Flights to most Indian cities take three to four hours.

After graduation

Graduates can apply for a Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licence to work in Dubai. To work in India, you need Indian Nursing Council equivalency.

A typical week

A typical week as a DMU nursing student includes classes, skills labs and clinical rotations in hospitals across Dubai. Students often travel by metro or university transport to placements. The weekend in the UAE falls on Saturday and Sunday, with a shorter working day on Friday. Students usually balance study with time at the beach, parks and community events, and Indian student groups at the university organise celebrations for festivals such as Diwali, Onam and Eid. Many families also find it reassuring that home is only a short flight away.

Getting a DHA nursing licence, step by step

  1. Complete the BSc in Nursing, including all clinical training.
  2. Have your qualification and documents verified through the primary source verification process the Dubai Health Authority uses.
  3. Pass the DHA licensing assessment for registered nurses, if required.
  4. Receive your eligibility letter and licence once you have a job offer from a Dubai healthcare facility.

Rules can change, so check the latest DHA requirements before you graduate.

Before you apply to Dubai Medical University

Check the language level you need for both the course and nursing registration, and confirm the entry rules for Indian school certificates. If you want to work as a nurse in India later, you will need equivalency from the Indian Nursing Council, so keep your syllabus, transcripts and clinical-hour records from the first year. Our Nursing abroad guide covers eligibility, registration and careers in detail.
