About KIMEP University
KIMEP was founded in 1992, soon after Kazakhstan's independence, as the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research. It was created to train managers and economists for a market economy, and it teaches in English, following a North American-style credit system. Today it is a private, not-for-profit university with colleges of business, social sciences, law and humanities, and students from many countries.
The MBA at Bang College of Business
KIMEP's official catalogue describes an MBA focused on:
- Leadership: managing people and teams in changing organisations.
- Business decisions: finance, accounting, marketing, operations and data-based decision making.
- Organisational change: strategy and change management in growing companies.
The catalogue we reviewed is for 2023–24. Ask KIMEP for the current curriculum, work experience rules, fees and admission dates for 2027-28. Many KIMEP MBA students are working professionals, so check whether classes are held in the evenings and whether the format suits a student visa.
Why applicants consider KIMEP
- A long-established English-medium business university in Central Asia.
- A North American-style curriculum and credit system.
- Exposure to Kazakhstan's growing economy in energy, finance, logistics and trade.
- Almaty is a modern, green city with lower costs than Western business hubs.
Things to think about
- Check the class schedule and visa route.
- Most local business is done in Russian or Kazakh, so jobs in Kazakhstan may need those languages.
- Consider whether a Central Asian MBA fits your long-term career plans in India or elsewhere.
How to apply
Apply through KIMEP's graduate admissions with your bachelor's degree, transcripts, CV, English test scores and any admission test the university requires. Ask about interviews, scholarships and deadlines for the 2027-28 intake.
Fees and costs
Ask for the official 2027-28 tuition per credit or per year in writing. Living costs in Almaty are moderate. Add accommodation, insurance, visa and travel.
Life in Almaty
Almaty is Kazakhstan's largest city and business centre, set at the foot of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. It has tree-lined streets, parks, cafés, ski slopes nearby and a growing international community. Russian is widely spoken, and Kazakh is the state language. Winters are cold and summers are warm. There are direct flights between Almaty and Delhi.
Careers after an MBA in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is Central Asia's largest economy, with strong energy, mining, finance, logistics and trade sectors. Almaty is the business capital, and Astana hosts the Astana International Financial Centre. Foreigners need work permits, and most local roles need Russian or Kazakh. An MBA here suits those interested in Central Asian markets, energy and trade. Use the programme to build regional contacts, and plan your long-term career clearly.
