About MNUMS
MNUMS began in 1942 as the medical faculty of the National University of Mongolia and later became an independent medical university. It trains most of Mongolia's doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists, and has schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, public health and traditional medicine. The university runs teaching hospitals and works with major hospitals in Ulaanbaatar. It also publishes information for international applicants.
The Nursing bachelor's programme
The university's official brochure describes a four-year Nursing bachelor's course, which is different from its shorter diploma courses. Make sure you apply for the bachelor's degree. A typical four-year programme covers:
- Foundation sciences: anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology and nutrition.
- Nursing practice: fundamentals of nursing, adult health, maternal and child health, mental health and community health nursing.
- Clinical placements: supervised practice in hospitals and clinics in Ulaanbaatar.
- Professional skills: ethics, communication, research and leadership.
Confirm the teaching language, the clinical placement arrangements and the entry route for the exact Nursing degree before you apply. Most patient contact in Mongolia is in Mongolian.

Ask about any preparatory language course, and the documents needed for the student visa. Mongolia's academic year usually starts in September.
Fees and costs
Ask for the official 2027-28 tuition and accommodation fees in writing. Living costs in Ulaanbaatar are moderate. Add winter clothing, heating, insurance, visa and travel.
Using a Mongolian nursing degree
To work as a nurse in India, you will need Indian Nursing Council equivalency. To work in Mongolia or another country, you will need registration with that country's authority. Collect detailed transcripts and clinical-hour records every year, because regulators look closely at these.
Life in Ulaanbaatar
Ulaanbaatar is Mongolia's capital and home to almost half of the country's people. It has a mix of Soviet-era buildings, modern towers and traditional ger districts. Mongolian is the main language, and some people speak Russian or English. Winters are extremely cold, with temperatures often far below zero, and air pollution can be high in winter. Summers are short and pleasant, with festivals such as Naadam in July. Flights to India usually connect through Beijing, Seoul, Istanbul or other hubs.
Before you apply to Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences
Check the language level you need for both the course and nursing registration, and confirm the entry rules for Indian school certificates. If you want to work as a nurse in India later, you will need equivalency from the Indian Nursing Council, so keep your syllabus, transcripts and clinical-hour records from the first year.
