About RUDN University
RUDN was founded in 1960 in Moscow to educate students from Asia, Africa and Latin America. It has since grown into a large federal university with students from more than 150 countries, and international students form a big share of its campus. Its Medical Institute trains doctors, dentists, pharmacists and nurses, with clinical teaching in Moscow hospitals.
Because of its international mission, RUDN has long experience with students who arrive without Russian, and it runs a preparatory faculty for those who want to study in Russian.
General Medicine at RUDN
The General Medicine programme lasts six years. RUDN lists an English-language track separately from the Russian-language track, so choose carefully when you apply: the language, fee and admission rules can differ. The course follows the Russian medical curriculum:
- Years 1–2: anatomy, histology, biochemistry, physiology, biology and Latin.
- Year 3: pathology, pharmacology, microbiology and propaedeutics (introduction to clinical medicine).
- Years 4–6: internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, neurology, infectious diseases and other clinical subjects in Moscow hospitals.
Even on the English track, you will need Russian to talk to patients in the clinical years. RUDN teaches Russian as part of the programme.
Nursing at RUDN
RUDN also offers a four-year Nursing bachelor's degree taught in Russian, with simulation training and practice at clinical sites in Moscow. If you are interested in nursing, you will usually need Russian at a good level first, often through a preparatory year. Indian citizens who later want to work as nurses in India need Indian Nursing Council equivalency.
Why students choose RUDN
- A well-known university in Moscow with a very international student body.
- An English-taught medicine track listed separately from the Russian track.
- Clinical training in a large capital city with many hospitals.
- Strong support services for international students.
Things to think about
- Moscow is the most expensive city in Russia.
- Payment and banking can be difficult; many foreign bank cards do not work in Russia, so plan how you will pay fees and receive money.
- Learn Russian seriously from the first year.
How admission works
Apply through RUDN's international admissions office for your chosen programme and language. Russian universities usually ask for your Class 12 documents, passport and sometimes entrance tests or interviews for international applicants. After admission, the university applies for your visa invitation, and you then apply for the student visa at the Russian embassy or consulate.
Fees and costs
Tuition differs by programme and language track. Ask RUDN for the official 2027-28 fee for your track in writing. Also plan for hostel, food, medical insurance, visa and registration, winter clothing, books and travel.
Life in Moscow
Moscow is Russia's capital and largest city, with an excellent metro, parks, museums and theatres. RUDN's main campus is in the south-west of the city. Indian food shops and restaurants are available, and there are Indian student groups. Winters are long and cold, with snow from November to March, so proper winter clothing is essential.
Before you apply to RUDN University
To practise in India later, you need a qualifying NEET-UG result before you join, and the course must meet the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021: at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same university, teaching in English and eligibility for a medical licence in Russia. NMC does not approve or list foreign universities, so ask RUDN University to confirm these points in writing and read the latest notices on nmc.org.in. After graduating you will need to clear the licensing exam (currently FMGE) and a 12-month internship in India. Our MBBS abroad guide covers eligibility, documents, FMGE preparation and careers in detail.
2027-28 intake timeline
- October 2026 – January 2027: shortlist RUDN University and other options, read the official 2027-28 admission rules and check that the course meets the NMC conditions.
- February – April 2027: register for NEET-UG 2027 and get your passport and documents ready.
- May 2027: appear for NEET-UG 2027 (NTA will announce the date; recent exams were on the first Sunday of May).
- June – August 2027: apply to RUDN University through its official international admissions channel.
- August – October 2027: admission letter, visa, travel and joining.
Russian universities apply for your visa invitation after admission, which can take a month or more, so do not wait until the last week to apply. Classes for international students usually start in September, with late arrivals possible at some universities.
