About King's College London

King's was founded in 1829 and is one of the oldest universities in England. Its Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care traces its history to the Nightingale Training School, founded by Florence Nightingale at St Thomas' Hospital in 1860. KCL is part of King's Health Partners, an academic health science centre with major London hospitals such as Guy's, St Thomas' and King's College Hospital.

The Adult Nursing BSc

The programme focuses on adult nursing, which is different from children's, mental health or learning disability nursing in the UK. It combines university teaching with clinical placements in hospitals and community settings across London. Graduates who complete the course can apply to join the register of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the UK nursing regulator.

Check the current overseas qualification rules, English requirements and clinical placement conditions on KCL's course page.

Why students consider King's

  • A world-famous nursing faculty with roots in Florence Nightingale's school.
  • Placements in some of London's largest teaching hospitals.
  • A strong research environment.
  • A clear route to UK registration.

Things to think about carefully

  • London is very expensive.
  • Entry and English requirements are high.
  • International students pay overseas fees and do not receive NHS student funding.

How to apply

Apply through UCAS with your personal statement, reference and predicted or final Class 12 results. Nursing applicants are usually interviewed. For September 2027, apply by the UCAS equal-consideration deadline in late January 2027. After meeting conditions, you receive a CAS for the Student visa.

Fees and costs

Ask King's for the 2027-28 overseas tuition. Add London rent (very high), food, transport, the Immigration Health Surcharge, visa fees, books and placement travel. The Student visa requires proof of funds.

Life in London

London is the UK's capital and one of the world's great cities, with a very large Indian community, Indian food everywhere, temples and gurdwaras. KCL's campuses are in central and south London, close to the Thames. Public transport is excellent but costly. The weather is mild and often rainy.

After graduation

Graduates can apply to join the NMC register and work as adult nurses. Many NHS trusts sponsor visas for registered nurses, subject to current immigration rules. You may also be able to use the Graduate Route, whose length the UK government plans to change, so check GOV.UK when you graduate.

Preparing for your nursing interview

UK nursing interviews check your motivation, values and communication. Be ready to explain why you want to be a nurse, what adult nursing involves, and how you show care, respect and teamwork. Read about the NHS Constitution and its values, and think of examples from school, volunteering or family caring. Practise speaking clearly in English.

Joining the UK register

After you complete the degree, your university confirms that you have met the standards, and you apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. You pay a registration fee and make a health and character declaration. Once registered, you can work as a registered nurse in the UK.

Before you apply to King's College London

Check the language level you need for both the course and nursing registration, and confirm the entry rules for Indian school certificates. If you want to work as a nurse in India later, you will need equivalency from the Indian Nursing Council, so keep your syllabus, transcripts and clinical-hour records from the first year. Our Nursing abroad guide covers eligibility, registration and careers in detail.
